08/17/2002 01:00 PM | In our humble opinions, having our son--Carl Anthany Richardson--participate in the summer program of BCLS was one of the best decisions that we could have made as an investment in his bright future! It was time well spent, and we're confident that it kept Carl on his toes and on target in preparation for his return to the 10th grade at the Academy of Oak Park on the 26th. Carl's sure to have a leg up on all of the other students who may not have been as mentally stimulated, challenged, and prepared for "the game" over their summer vacations.
It was a blessing for Carl to have bumped into "Auntie" Beverly at the Southfield Public Library this past May during one of our many Saturday study sessions, and to receive a flyer announcing the registration and placement testing dates for BCLS's summer semester.
BCLS has been a well kept secret, but not any longer! I've shared the program with co-workers at Detroit Edison and GM, neighbors in the Crary-St.Mary Community district, relatives, and with fellow members of Elyton MBC (on the eastside). By the way, our orientation guest speaker for the summer kick-off program, James Tatum, mentioned that he found one of his violin prodigies on the eastside of Detroit (at Second Canaan MBC) after having received a call from the Minister of Music at Elyton MBC (John D. Kelly, Pastor), the infamous Rosa Lee Smith--a former co-worker of his from Murray Wright HS's Music Department. We're proud to say that he was referring to one of our very own, young Sister Bertrina (sp).
Thanks a million to BCLS's founders (Paul and Beverly), academic directors, coaches, assistant coaches, "cheerleaders," LTU, program sponsors, and parent volunteers for your sacrifices for Carl and all program participants this summer. My husband and I didn't get a chance to volunteer as we indicated earlier at the orientation, nor as we had anticipated due to several extenuating circumstances that arose over the course of the program, but we're in for the long haul, and expect to fall right in place beginning with the fall session. We realize how important it is for the program to have parents and others supporting it. Every little bit counts towards the final results....
Everyone, have a blessed and very safe "rest-of-the-summer!" Prayerfully, we'll see some familiar faces at the fall semester kick-off, Saturday, September 21st at LTU.

I'm very happy that you took the time out of your day to heap praises upon the BCLS program. We are very greatful for the very kind words. Please understand that we will always strive to improve our services, but it will take dedicated parents to help us reach our pinnacle..
We are eager to see Carl next semester.
Thanks for spreading the word about BCLS..
