Vocabulary Class: Overview
Class
excercises will cause students to learn many words, and -- more
importantly -- how to learn words. Successful students will adopt
word-learning / vocabulary-building as a regular, life-long habit. As
vocabulary grows, so does reading comprehension and writing skills
(both covered by the SAT). Although this class will not cover SAT
Reading Comprehension and SAT Writing, vocabulary-building will help
prepare a student for those activities. This class will cover SAT
Sentence Completion problems, which directly test a Student's
vocabulary.
Materials:
1.Textbook: "Hot Words for the SAT". Each student gets a copy of this book.
2.Textbook: Princeton
Review's "Cracking the SAT", Chapter on SAT Sentence Completion
problems. Coach will use these techniques in class; students will not
get a copy of this book, but students taking the class at home will
need this material for themselves.
